BORDADOS
The Bordados, or embroidered vessels, are inspired by the hand-made peasant and huipil dresses of Mexico. These dresses and their imagery have become symbolic of my own femininity and pay tribute to the traditions of womanhood in the Mexican culture.
As a little girl, I recall wearing these traditional dresses and hold dear the memories I have of my grandmother wearing the brightly colored garments around the house. These memories and experiences are reminders of the huge effort my mother and grandmother made so that I could experience my culture and heritage.
These dresses, with flora and fauna, embroidered by women, for women, are representative and tangible examples of the traditions of womanhood being passed from mother to child for generations to come.
