INSTALLATIONS
Through installation, I combine traditional ceramic forms connected by thread as a representation of my lineage. The vessels become abstract evocations of the relationships between my mother, grandmother and myself, illustrating the transmission of life between our generations.
The masses of fibers establish that relationship while creating movement to contrast the stillness of the ceramic forms. The static nature of the vessels references our individual identities while the fibers portray the flux of traditions as they are passed from parent to child.
The installations, set against a colored backdrop harken back to the streets of Mexico; A vibrancy which has shaped my perspective of the world and that has been so deeply embedded into the identities of the women who raised me.
